“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”   They heard His voice and followed Him.

This ministry began in 1991 when a newsletter was developed by two inmates at Joliet Correctional Center. They typed, drew, cut, and pasted the newsletter together and made copies in the Chapel to distribute to other inmates. Several months later, a mom volunteered to type the articles for them if they would continue to write the stories and testimonies.

Today, the Newsletter is still a family-based ministry (imprisoned “sons” and “daughters”). The Fishers of Men Newsletter reaches into prisons throughout the United States, Canada and into hundreds of homes via the Internet.  The poems, stories and testimonies are still written by inmates as they share the saving news of Jesus Christ with others and giving them hope for the future.

The ultimate dream of this ministry is to enable the imprisoned to share their experiences, while spreading the Word of Christ and encouraging others to receive Him as their own personal Savior.  By doing that, not only will the inmates grow in spirit by helping others, but those to whom they are ministering can receive the kind of peace that is only obtainable by personally knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In cleaning out some old files recently, I ran across this statement that was written in 1991 by those who began this ministry.  They've come a long way in their walk with the Lord, but the message is still the same....If you want to go to Heaven to be with your Father, you must receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  Momm

“We are fishers of men.  Our purpose is to spread the message of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Through our lifetime, we were lost on the path of darkness, lost in this world of sin, but God found mercy on us.  He allowed us to see that we are sinners and that God sent His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and was raised from the dead that we may have life.  If we confess with our mouth and believe with our hearts that Jesus Christ died for our sins and was raised from the dead, we will have eternal life. Jesus Christ came to earth to die for our sin (the whole world).  No matter what we have done, if we ask Jesus to forgive us our sins, He will.  All we need to do is to confess being a lost sinner and that we are willing to live our life as Jesus would want us to.  We are all sinners and have fallen short of the Glory of God and we are all lost unless we let Jesus Christ come into our lives.”
