“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”   They heard His voice and followed Him.

This ministry began in 1991 when a newsletter was developed by two inmates at Joliet Correctional Center. They typed, drew, cut, and pasted the newsletter together and made copies in the Chapel to distribute to other inmates. Several months later, a mother volunteered to type the articles and put it into newsletter format for them if they would continue to write the stories and testimonies… and they did! The newsletter was typed and 25 copies were printed and sent to the Chaplain at JCC. In 2001, with the encouragement of Bethany’s Pastor, “FOM” became a 501(c)3 ministry with non-profit mailing ability, using 5403 N. Second Street, Loves Park, IL (Bethany Church) as its mailing address and printing the newsletters at cost on the Bethany copy machine. It was folded and bulk mailed by family members.

Slowly the ministry grew in reputation and numbers. Today, the Fishers of Men Newsletter reaches into prisons in every state in the United States, Canada and into thousands of homes via email and via a website. The ultimate desire of this ministry is being accomplished as we enable the imprisoned to share their experiences, while spreading the Word of Christ and encouraging others to receive Him as their own personal Savior. By doing that, not only will the inmates who are writing the newsletter articles grow in spirit by helping others, but those to whom they are ministering can receive the kind of peace that is only obtainable by personally knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Until recently, this ministry which has been produced and funded solely by the family, began by printing 25 newsletters bi-monthly. During the last 26 years it has grown so much that is now published by a Christian printing company producing and mailing over 900 newsletters bi-monthly. We also email the newsletter to more than 1,000 families and ministries all over the world with some translating it into their native language for distribution to inmates in their own countries. We are blessed that prayers and donations from friends and family members have helped sustain its growth.

As we continue to grow, we turn to you to help provide additional funding and many prayers. “We are “fishers of men.” Our purpose is to spread the message of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Through our lifetime, we were lost on the path of darkness, lost in this world of sin, but God saw us and had mercy on us…”

In cleaning out some old files recently, I ran across this statement that was written in 1991 by those who began this ministry. They've come a long way in their walk with the Lord, but the message is still the same....If you want to go to Heaven to be with your Father, you must receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Momm

Read their message:  “We are fishers of men. Our purpose is to spread the message of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Through our lifetime, we were lost on the path of darkness, lost in this world of sin, but God found mercy on us. He allowed us to see that we are sinners and that God sent His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and was raised from the dead that we may have life. If we confess with our mouth and believe with our hearts that Jesus Christ died for our sins and was raised from the dead, we will have eternal life. Jesus Christ came to earth to die for our sin (the whole world). No matter what we have done, if we ask Jesus to forgive us our sins, He will. All we need to do is to confess being a lost sinner and that we are willing to live our life as Jesus would want us to. We are all sinners and have fallen short of the Glory of God and we are all lost unless we let Jesus Christ come into our lives.”
